Two police vehicles ended up clamped whilst royal protection police officers were sitting inside during a visit by the Queen, police said yesterday.

 

The episode took place when the Queen visited Portsmouthfor lunch on a deluxe yacht on Wednesday.


The police officers were in their undercover vehicles in private residents' parking bays at the Gunwharf Quays marina shopping complex.


The wheel clamper,  Mr. Gareth Andrews, 37, of Fareham, Hampshire, was |arrested for wilfully obstructing a police constable in the execution of his duty.

Mr. Andrews has also been charged with breaching the Private Security Industry Act by failing to display the correct accreditation badge.
