Kicked, punched and abused - a disgraceful litany of attacks on civil enforcement officers as they try to issue parking tickets.

A furious driver assaulted a civil enforcement officer using a brick in one of several aggressive situations sustained by civil enforcement officers.

A Visiter study today illustrates the actual physical as well as spoken abuse experienced by Civil Enforcement Officers.

Though relatively small in figures the character of the assaults has prompted local authority employers to warn that nobody needs to to tolerate abuse just for carrying out their job.

Info gathered through the FOI reveals how 15 civil enforcement officers have been attacked by members of the public over the past three years in Sefton.

Nonetheless the real amount of attacks might be much higher as registered events are only the ones where an officer has completed a report.

Assaults even include civil enforcement officers being hit, kicked and knocked out.

The disgraceful list includes:

A civil enforcement officer who received leg injuries chasing after a cyclist who had stolen his hat.

An officer robbed of his personal items while on a late patrol of Tulketh Street car park.

A parking attendant grabbed by the shoulder and shoved just before experiencing a battery of verbal abuse on the same street, where another colleague had also been struck by a vehicle door in an argument.

A civil enforcement officer pelted with an egg as he undertook patrols in another local street.

An attack on a civil enforcement officer, where the his camera was stolen before he was shoved and verbally abused.

Other icases include a civil enforcement officer sruck by a brick, another punched in the face and another kicked.

One civil enforcement officer was pulled almost ten feet by a vehicle she was attempting to ticket after the driver tried to drive away.

The civil enforcement officer was knocked unconscious.

Barrie's comment.  These disgraceful incidents are totally unacceptable.
