Nobody likes to get a parking ticket. The feeling of dread, regret and anger when we see a parking ticket stuck on our windscreen is familiar to far too many of us. And more and more people get parking tickets each year.
The really unlucky ones find their cars clamped or towed away with nothing but the promise of a big bill to look forward to.
Many motorists don't bother to appeal their parking tickets, clamping or towing fees because they feel that to do so is:
- Time consuming
- Complicated
- Expensive
- Bureaucratic
and that they risk higher penalties if their appeal fails.
AppealNow.com is here to help you.
Now you can use the AppealNow.com one-click service to lodge your appeal at the touch of a button.
Simply register with us and for a one-off small fee we will help you challenge your parking ticket, quickly, easily and efficiently.
Our unique system costs from just £7.99 and will take you under 5 minutes.
We can't guarantee that your appeal will be successful, but the odds are in your favour!
Why is it such a problem?
Local authorities are increasingly using the parking ticket 'system' to raise money. Gone are the days when parking tickets were used to keep the traffic flowing - they are now a major money-spinner. And with that commercialism comes the increasing likelihood that a parking ticket is issued unfairly, incorrectly or illegally.
Barrie Segal, AppealNow.com's founder and an acknowledged authority on parking tickets in the UK, estimates that as many as "5 million parking tickets per annum could be illegal and unenforceable."
More people than ever before are lodging appeals (appeals are 30% up year-on-year in London alone) and 63% of all appeals are upheld by the parking adjudicator!
The chances are that your parking ticket can be appealed.
That's why AppealNow.com was set up!
Why are so many parking tickets issued in error?
As local authorities have moved away from: using parking tickets as a traffic flow measure and towards a revenue generation model, their staff have been under increasing pressure to 'perform'. It is no secret that parking wardens are poorly paid and work to strict quotas.
"You pay lowest wages you get lowest quality people" Peter Guest, vice-president of the British Parking Association in evidence he gave to the Commons Transport Committee.
"There are currently seven DPE Councils outside London that clamp or remove vehicles. They are: Birmingham, Blackpool, Brighton, Bristol, Manchester, Nottingham and Oxfordshire. ... The fact that these Councils between them elected not to contest 28% of the appeals brought in cases involving the clamping or removal of vehicles, gives cause for concern." Chief Parking Adjudicator on Clamping and Towing away.
The Road Traffic Act 2004- The Hidden Minefields
The Road Traffic Act 2004 came into force TODAY!! (If it was due to come into force on 1st April that would have been more appropriate because there are many hidden dangers in the supposedly "fairer" [sic] legislation.) Motorists will need to be on their guard!
The government has missed a golden opportunity to make parking enforcement fairer but has scored an own goal. Watch this space!
AppealNow.com Crazy Parking Ticket Awards
At AppealNow.com we are constantly on the lookout for examples of parking wardens gone mad. The rabbit that got a parking ticket is one of our favourites, but the mourners at a funeral who were given tickets was an instance of the insensitive side of bureaucracy. More recently the whole country was outraged to learn that Transport for London and Wandsworth Council had issued parking tickets to the volunteers who were bravely trying to save the London whale. Thankfully those tickets have now been overturned on appeal.
Please let us know of any examples of local authority parking ticket lunacy that you come across.
Don't get lumbered with a parking ticket bill through your own inaction.
It's bad enough getting a parking ticket, but paying it without at least investigating whether you have a valid appeal would be a real pity. You'd be amazed at how many tickets are issued incorrectly - AppealNow.com's creator and best selling author of "The Parking Ticket Awards: Crazy Councils, Meter Madness & Traffic Warden Hell", Barrie Segal represented the motorist in the famous High Court case commonly referred to as the "Moses - v- Barnet" case ( R(London Borough of Barnet Council) v Parking Adjudicator [2006] EWHC 2357(Admin); [2007] RTR 14 ) which decided that millions of parking tickets issued by UK local authorities were invalid and unenforecable. As a result, over 6 million parking tickets worth over £300 million were invalidly issued!
Your ticket could easily be unfairly or illegally issued - in fact the odds suggest that you are more likely than not to have your ticket cancelled on appeal.
AppealNow.com can help you to lodge your appeal within the next five minutes at the click of a button.
